This ÍâÍøÌìÌà Nursing Support Workers’ Day (23 November), we’re celebrating the important contribution nursing support workers make to patient care and health and social care services.
Nursing support workers support registered nurses to provide patient care across wards, clinics and community teams. They’re vital members of the nursing workforce and care for patients across a variety of health and social care settings. These include learning disability services, mental health, maternity and more.
Nursing support workers are an integral part of the ÍâÍøÌìÌà and are supported by an elected committee.
Sharon Mitchel, newly-elected Chair of the ÍâÍøÌìÌà Nursing Support Workers’ Committee, said: “The vital role of the nursing support workforce is often unseen, yet our contribution to health and care services is crucial. Nursing support workers deserve to be acknowledged and to know that their impact is valued by the wider profession, the public, patients, service users, and residents.
“Join us in marking the sixth annual Nursing Support Workers’ Day, as we shine a light on the contribution of nursing support workers to nursing, to those they care for, and to the health and social care sector across the UK. It’s a day that celebrates the diversity and skill set within our workforce.”
To help you celebrate in your workplaces, you will be able to order free Nursing Support Workers’ Day badges from the ÍâÍøÌìÌà website next month and can buy an enamel badge from the . Keep an eye on the website and on our social media channels for more information. To help raise awareness of the day, we will also have a workplace poster and images for social media you can download.
ÍâÍøÌìÌà members who are nursing support workers are also invited to a free conference at ÍâÍøÌìÌà headquarters in London on Saturday 22 November.
Sharon added: “I’m looking forward to meeting delegates at the conference. But even if you can’t attend on the day, this is an opportunity to make sure all nursing support workers feel valued in their workplaces. Whatever your nursing role, please consider hosting an event in your workplace to shine a light on the important contribution of the nursing support workforce.”
